Personalised medicine aims to provide tailored preventive care, diagnostics and patient monitoring based on an individual’s genetic make-up, history and available treatments. The EU-funded TeamPerMed project will support the University of Tartu (UT) and Tartu University Hospital (UTH) in creating a Centre of Excellence in personalised medicine. The centre will become an internationally recognised leader in personalised medicine, using genomic and electronic health data and developing AI tools and protocols to enable the prevention of development of chronic or hereditary disease. With earlier diagnoses and more effective therapies, it holds great promise for improving the well-being and quality of life of individuals while reducing healthcare costs.
ECePS team members play an important role in the following activities of the project:
1. Improve TeamPerMed Socio-Economic Impact Analysis
Skytte Institute of Political Studies (UT) will collaborate with Erasmus Medical Center (EMC) and University of Helsinki (UH) to:
- identify central causal pathways of personalized medicine on population health indicators most relevant for public health governance.
- assess the direct effects of tested interventions on patient health indicators and aggregate these into population-level metrics for accurate estimation of individual effects and approximation into aggregated socioeconomic impact.
Tartu University Hospital will serve as a testbed for varying Extract, Transform, Load processes before conversion into registry data to arrive at the most suitable approaches for an efficient socio-economic impact assessment. Working Group 3 - Socio-Economic Impact – of the project is lead by Dr Mihkel Solvak, associate professor of technology research at the Skytte Institute.
Creation of a world-leading centre for personalised medicine in Estonia
